Penguin Book's early 'Travel & Adventure' books were rarely illustrated due to financial and wartime constraints. The few that were featured highly atmospheric, if somewhat poorly reproduced, photographs, which very much capture visually the essence of that which the authors attempted to describe in words.

"Acrobatic dancers of Man" (491: "Africa Dances")
"Sandstorm at Mersa Matruh" (198: "Amateur Adventure")
